Following our recent post (Chicken King Lickin’ Fingers), it seems that more cracks are appearing in Boparan’s empire. In a recent article on the Food Manufacture website, the disposal of 2Sisters Red Meat to Irish business Kepak has prompted speculation in the City that this may not be the last division to be put on the chopping block by the food giant.
Boparan is struggling to keep his debt ridden business afloat and the disposal of Goodfellas, Donegal Catch and Holland’s Pies are all attempts to keep the city ‘happy’ with their continuing support for the business.
Our concern is not for Boparan or his debt, but for the uncertainty that surrounds the future of the Mill in Stoke Ferry. Only 2 weeks ago, Boparan reversed the decision to close ‘Site E’ in Wolverhampton following a ‘meaningful consultation’ between the manufacturer and the workforce which sees the factory move to a 7 day a week operation.
What’s needed is a new mill to replace the old, inefficient and troublesome site at Stoke Ferry. 2Sisters have said that they are going to concentrate on their ‘chicken and chill’ business, so a brand spanking new mill with easy access to the A11 would certainly be welcome!
